Dubbo Zoo

A Day at the Zoo

What a day we had at the zoo,
A chance to see the wild up close.
What a day to reconnect,
With nature’s wonders, vast and grand.

From silent hunters to playful mischief,
From timid eyes to fearless might,
Each creature tells a story deep,
A glimpse into their distant life.

Oh, how I long to see them roam,
In forests deep, in endless plains,
To watch them free, where they belong,
To watch them free, where they reside.

The Zoo

Taronga Western Plains Zoo, commonly known as Dubbo Zoo, is one of Australia’s premier open-range zoos, located in Dubbo, New South Wales. Spanning over 300 hectares, the zoo provides a spacious and well-maintained environment for its range of animals. The habitats are exquisitely designed to mimicking their natural environments.

Each enclosure is carefully designed to ensure the well-being of its inhabitants. The African Savannah exhibit allows giraffes, zebras, and rhinos to roam freely in a vast, open plain. The Asian Rainforest section provides lush greenery and shaded areas for tigers and elephants, while the Primate Islands offer tree-filled enclosures where monkeys and lemurs can swing and explore. The zoo’s commitment to conservation is evident in its breeding programs and rehabilitation efforts for endangered species.

When we visited, we found the staff very friendly and help bring the experience to life. Zookeepers and guides are always eager to share fun facts about the animals, making every visit both entertaining and educational. Whether it’s a feeding session, a behind-the-scenes tour, or a keeper talk, the staff’s passion for wildlife was obvious and infectious.

The zoo’s unique layout encourages an immersive experience. We explored on our bicycles throughout the internal roads and walking trails. The open atmosphere made the entire venue very relaxed.

It’s worthwhile opening up the images and looking at them in full size.
